Introduction
This manual is designed to better equip you to share the gospel with unsaved family, friends, and strangers. Statistics show that only about 2% of professed believers in Jesus Christ share their faith regularly (from Dr. Bill Bright, Campus Crusade for Christ). Perhaps many professed believers really don’t care about the overwhelming amount of unsaved people dying everyday, heading for an eternity of excruciating pain and suffering without Christ’s blood covering their sin.
But perhaps many other believers really do care about the plight of the lost, want to do something about it, but just do not feel equipped to do so. They feel like an untrained fireman, sent into a blazing inferno to rescue dying people, with no more than a squirt-gun to fight the flames.
Water is the only thing that can extinguish the flames, and lead the endangered people to safety, but the rescuers commissioned to save these people don’t feel equipped to spread enough water to lead the captives to safety. So, the rescuers remain outside, terrified for the future of those that remain in the inferno, but feeling unable to do anything about the awful situation.
In the same way, believers know that the living water of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the only thing capable of leading sinners into a safe eternity with Father God, but perhaps they feel ill equipped to spread the Gospel. Instead, they keep their faith to themselves for fear of getting burned.
Now picture this. What if we take the rescuers and give them extensive training in methods for fighting fires? We then clothe them with a fire proof suit from head to toe. We equip them with the finest water pumping devices, and give them as many heavy duty water hoses as they need.
Best yet, we show them the plans to the burning building, and it reveals a fire-proof escape for their assurance of safe exit from the building with the people they rescue. Now they’ve got what they need. Now they are ready to do what they are called to do. Now they are ready to complete their mission!
By God’s grace, it is my prayer that this booklet will equip you and give you the confidence to boldly share your faith with unbelievers in every area of your life. It will show you why you should be concerned for the lost, the nature of the mission field your being sent into, weapons available for your use in sharing your faith, detours from hang-ups that will attempt to impede you from being effective in sharing your faith, and how to have the attitude that God wants you to have while sharing your faith.
